Proyecto Pomada para la Gente/ Salve for the People Project
It all started when…
We began volunteering for the radical women-run organization “Botanical Bus” https://thebotanicalbus.org in 2021. Feeling wholly inspired by this grass-roots movement to extend healthcare to the Latinx and Indigenous communities, we decided to add to the cause. The idea of the “Proyecto Pomada para la Gente/ Salve for the People Project” was born. We have made & donated 450 tins of salve to the Botanical Bus, and hope to expand this project further in the coming months.
What do these revolutionary women do? Read on…
The Botanical Bus: Bilingual Mobile Herb Clinic takes community-based action to meet the needs of growing health disparity in the Latinx and Indigenous communities. Our clinic recognizes the knowledge of the people as an unlimited and invaluable resource, and is driven by the proven success of the self-healing community model in which holistic health is empowered by the people, for the people.
In 2021, The Botanical Bus: Bilingual Mobile Herb Clinic
Provided 500 Latinx and Indigenous residents of Sonoma County with direct upstream integrative health care through Farmworker Clinics
Connected 10 Promotoras with integrative care professionals through quarterly enrichment retreats that grow leadership skills and health education based on a community needs assessment
Organized 20 wellness workshops, led by Promotoras, to reach 375 community members online and in Family Resource Center gardens
Distributed 500 mutual-aid herbal care kits and 200 garden kits to Farmworkers and their families
And now… We are donating our salves to various homeless shelters, schools, and health centers. Please contact us if you are interested in receiving a donation of our “Salve for the People” and tell us a bit about your needs.
